Fall Out Boy frontman Patrick Stump has said he has no intention of waiting too long to record again with the band.

Speaking to Alternative Press, Stump, who releases his debut solo album 'Soul Punk' during the summer, says fans won’t have to wait more than two years for a reunion of the Illinois pop punkers, who have been on hiatus since 2009.

Asked whether the band would follow the likes of Soundgarden in having an extended period of time apart, Stump said: "That’s something I don’t ever want to do. I don’t want to take 10 years off. I don’t want to do that when I’m 40. I don’t want to try and call back material I wrote when I was 17."

Stump also said reports that the band have split have been "blown way out of proportion", saying that the band "were just taking some time off" as they’ve "been on tour forever."

He also said that he tells fans who don’t like his solo record that it will most likely improve the next Fall Out Boy album, adding: "You may hate my solo music, [but] you may like the next Fall Out Boy record because of it."
